Take That land Outstanding Contribution to British Music Ivor Novello award


[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] have been honoured with the PRS for Music Outstanding Contribution to British Music gong at the 2012 Ivor Novello Awards.

The popular group won the award today (May 17) at the Ivor Novello Awards ceremony in London.

The band were also nominated in the PRS for Music Most Performed Work category for their song 'The Flood'.

However, they eventually lost out to Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep', which shared writing credits with Paul Epworth.

Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Robbie Williams will be in celebration mode this evening after their group Take That (as if you friggin’ needed us to tell you who there group were) won the Outstanding Contribution To British Music Award at the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards.

Only Gary, Mark, and Howard from the band were on hand to collect the gong at the ceremony – which honour excellence in song writing – but they got a standing ovation when they did.

Adele had cause for celebration as well; not only did she win the ‘PRS for Music Most Performed Work’, beating Take That in the same category, she also collected the lusted after Songwriter of The Year prize which has previously been won by the likes of Damon Albarn, Lily Allen and Plan B.

Elsewhere PJ Harvey won Best Album beating Adele’s massively popular ‘21’, Lana Del Rey got the Best Contemporary Song gong for 'Video Games' and Ed Sheeran won the Best Song Musically and Lyrically award for 'The A Team' also beating Adele (for 'Rolling In The Deep').

BRITISH AND IRISH SONG-WRITERS RECOGNISED AT IVOR NOVELLOS


The 57th Ivor Novello Awards took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London earlier today, the awards celebrate the best of British and Irish song-writing across all musical genres. Fellow song-writers vote for the winners.

Take That were awarded the PRS For Music Outstanding Contribution to British Music award, much to Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen’s delight. Jason Orange and Robbie Williams who contributed to TT’s musical success were absent from the event. Robbie was perhaps preparing for Soccer Aid wheras Jason tends to avoid the lime-light preferring to watch the world go by from town benches.

Gary Barlow Tweeted a picture of the ‘fab three’ and wrote: “Thank you for all your lovely messages re #ivors #takethatarmy #gbarmy”

Adele won two awards, taking the PRS for Music Most Performed Work award for Rolling In The Deep and the coveted title of Songwriter of the Year.

Ed Sheeran and Lana Del Rey also picked up awards, see below for the full list of winners from 2012.

IT burns my ears to hear it but Mark Owen has confessed he’s sometimes embarrassed to be a member of my favourite manband Take That.

After they landed Outstanding Contribution To Music, dad-to-be Mark said: “I’d like to thank the lads because sometimes I’m embarrassed I’m in the band, but other times I love it. Looking at old pictures of us in the early days I really wasn’t sure.”





The 40-year-old is currently writing solo songs for a new album.




He said: “I’m still recording – my wife sends me down the bottom of the garden to keep on writing.”




And the TT fans got a big thank you too.




Howard Donald, 44, said: “We’ve had much better support second time around which is great for my own kids to see.”

Gary Barlow’s wife Dawn will be relieved her husband has picked up some silverware as the Liverpool fan had been moping since Kenny Dalglish got sacked on Wednesday.
But Gary was chuffed as he joined Mark Owen and Howard Donald, there with partner Katie Halil, to get their Outstanding Contribution gong.

He said: "We go to lots of award shows but if you were to see the pleasure on the recipient's faces when they win an Ivor it's something different and special.

"It's a beautiful awards show and I'm proud to be here and win one.

He added: "So – up Ivors!”

Mark Owen, accompanied by his heavily pregnant missus Emma Ferguson, was mortified after a tribute video was shown containing old photos of the lads.

He said: “Sometimes I’m embarrassed to be in the band. Sometimes I’m really proud.”
