Robbie Williams has lifted this year's Soccer Aid trophy for England.

The England team were crowned champions of the bi-annual charity match, after beating the Rest of the World team 3-1.


The Rest of the World team - featuring the likes of Hollywood stars Will Ferrell, Edward Norton and Gerard Butler - took the lead through Sergio Pizzorno in the first 15 minutes.

The Kasabian musician scored a chipped finish against former England keeper David Seaman.

England eventually equalised later in the second half after Graeme Le Saux's shot deflected off Teddy Sheringham.

They soon after took the lead when co-creator Jonathan Wilkes scored his third Soccer Aid goal with a finish from a tight angle.

Blackpool player Kevin Phillips completed the victory with a well-struck shot just outside the area.

During the match, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was stretchered off after a foul by Sheringham. Olly Murs and Roy Keane were also taken off through injury.


Robbie Williams - who before the match [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] due to a back problem - came on in the second half to witness his team win the event for a third time.

Speaking after the match, Wilkes said: "When me and Rob came up with this we never dreamt of this. Soccer Aid just gets stronger and stronger. Rob played through the pain barrier. Him coming on changed the game for us."

Olly Murs said: "It's a great feeling, it's just a shame I had to come off, but I'm really happy for the whole team. It's been amazing this year, I just loved every minute of it, I'm really chuffed. I trained all week, I had no problems. To pull off with a hamstring, I was gutted. but it was brilliant."

Rest of the World captain Michael Sheen said: "No more boybands from now on! Let's have UB40. But good for them, they were brilliant."

Man of the Match Pizzorno added: "I'm proud of that one. I want to dedicate that to Tom Meighan, he's just had a baby girl. It's a real honour to be asked to play, that's a lot of money raised."

The charity event was able to raise over £4 million in funds for UNICEF.

HOLLYWOOD A-listers and pop stars lined up with footie legends to raise £4million for a kids’ charity in last night’s Soccer Aid.

Around 75,000 fans watched England beat the Rest of the World 3-1 at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Will Ferrell, Mike Myers, Gerard Butler and Michael Sheen were among the celebs playing in aid of Unicef.

Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno scored first for the Rest of the World with a spectacular chip over ex-England goalie David Seaman. Teddy Sheringham injured Gordon Ramsay in a tackle and the chef was stretchered off.

Sheringham levelled the score before TV presenter Jonathan Wilkes — co-founder of Soccer Aid with best pal Robbie Williams — shot England into the lead.

Kevin Phillips rounded off England’s 3-1 win.

Mark Owen, Olly Murs, Joe Calzaghe, JLS’s Marvin Humes, Freddie Ljungberg, Jaap Stam and Hernan Crespo also took part.



The Government pledged to double the total raised through tickets and phone donations.

Robbie Williams' England side beat a team of Hollywood A-listers and football legends 3-1 in the fourth Soccer Aid at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.

Two teams of celebrities, including actors Will Ferrell, Edward Norton and Michael Sheen, clashed in the game which raised more than £4 million for Unicef.

The Soccer Aid event saw an England side, led by Take That's Williams, play a Rest of the World team.

Before tonight's game Soccer Aid had raised more than of £6.5 million through ticket sales and donations, with all profits going to Unicef's work helping children across the world.Today the Government pledged to match all the cash raised through donations.

The huge public response to the Soccer Aid appeal shows that those watching tonight's game are united not only by a love of football but by a fantastic generosity of spirit.

We will reflect that spirit by matching pound for pound from our existing aid budget all public donations, helping Unicef reach hundreds of thousands more children in east and west Africa.

Players on the England team included comedians John Bishop and Paddy McGuinness, singers Olly Murs and Mark Owen, with Robbie Williams as team captain.

They were joined by former footballers including Graeme Le Saux, Martin Keown, Kevin Phillips, David Seaman, Teddy Sheringham and Des Walker, with West Ham manager Sam Allardyce in charge of the team.

Playing for the Rest of the World were actor Gerard Butler, former boxer Joe Calzaghe and Hollywood's Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, James McAvoy, Ed Norton and Mike Myers.

Also playing was chef Gordon Ramsay - who was stretchered off the pitch - with star of stage and screen Michael Sheen as captain.

They were joined by football legends Hernan Crespo, Roy Keane, Clarence Seedorf, Jaap Stam, Edwin Van Der Sar and Freddie Ljungberg, with former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish taking charge of the side.

The first half came to an end with the Rest of the World team 1-0 up, thanks to a great goal from Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno. The musician got on to the end of a pass from former Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg and chipped the ball over England goalkeeper David Seaman.

Teddy Sheringham deflected a Graeme Le Saux shot into the back of the net to equalise for England in the second half. Then, just minutes later, Jonathan Wilkes put England 2-1 up.

Kevin Phillips rounded off the game with a goal in the 89th minute to seal a 3-1 win for England.

We don't know about you heatworld citizens, but we were very excited for the run-up to the fourth Soccer Aid. The charity event, broadcast by ITV tonight, was set up by [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] and his friend Jonathon Wilkes back in 2006 in a bid to raise money for children suffering in the world's poorest countries - and now, in 2012, it's still going strong! So far the cheeky chaps have managed to raise a whopping £7.5 million, not too shabby... and tonight they're going for the £10 million!

And last week, we were lucky enough to meet some of the stars involved in the game during their training day and after looking at the line-up, we conclude this could be the glitziest Soccer Aid to date!

So firstly, Will Ferrell was very funny trying to play down his football skills, although we secretly think he'd be the darkhorse. Will joked,

“I don’t know why people are bigging me up. All I have is… well, the proper attitude, I’m out here, keeping my mouth shut and just playing the game – I’m just a regular professional footballer. A good team member. I did do some secret training, in Afghanistan. With Special Ops. Yes"

The comic obviously couldn't help but mention the character that shot him into the UK limelight, Ron Burgandy,

“If Ron Burgandy was here, he wouldn’t make it on to the pitch. He’d be drunk on Scotch by now.”

Will is playing in the rest of the world team alongside Ed Norton, Woody Harrelson, Gerard Butler, Joe Calzaghe, Patrick Kielty, Mike Myers, Sergio Pizzorno, Gordon Ramsey, [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] and Michael Sheen as their captain.

Actor Jason Isaacs (you'll know him as Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter) was very confident that England would clinch the title as he revealed the teams warm up techniques included watching The Notebook and have a team cry. Jason confessed to us,

"The reason why England will win is because there has not been one serious word said between any of us. Whereas with them [the ROW], they don’t even speak the same language. And no one can understand their manager!

"Plus Ben Shepherd is our secret weapon. He went on a diet of wheatgrass and raw hedgehog or something and now he’s wearing a 34C bra and has a 12 pack...Our prep beforehand is we all listen to Barry Manilow and then have a cuddle. Then we watch The Notebook and cry together. It works!"

We also managed to sidle up next to those very handsome JLS boys [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] and [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] and tried our best to try and get some wedding goss out of the newly engaged singer. When we asked the boys who would win a match out of JLS and One Direction, they confessed,

Aston: "There’s no competition, we’d completely win a football competition between us and One Direction."

Marvin: "I’ve seen Niall on the football pitch and he claims to be a massive sportsman but he’s not that good. JLS would have the one up on 1D."

After trying to get some sneaky wedding info off of Marvin, Aston stepped in saying that as a friend he couldn't let Marvin reveal any special details, so it'll have to be a surprise for us all!

The man of the hour however was frontman Robbie, who after watching the charity event grow in success, was very excited for today's event. He also confirmed that he'd be organising a solo tour very soon, saying,

“Oh that WILL be happening, definitely, definitely!

"But it’s different though, because when the ball arrives at your feet, you don’t know what you’re going to do - but with gigs I know all the words."

Robbie did admit that he might be at a disadvantage this time around as he was too ill with his back problems to train as much as he'd have liked to.

He admitted, “Normally I’d put in about three months before hand in training but I’ve been a bit ill so I’ve not been able to train. We have a lot of love for them and we’ll do our talking on the field. And you know what? We’ll give them a hug when they’ve lost...I don’t think. Will Ferrell understands that he doesn’t get five goals per goal though…”
