Gary Barlow was recognised for all his charity work and philanthropic ventures at tonight’s National television Awards.

Since the X Factor judge shot back into the spotlight as part of the once again popular Take That, he has tirelessly tried to raise money for causes such as Children In Need and The Princes Trust and this evening his hard work and effort was rewarded.

Chris Moyles presented his pal with the trophy and before calling the dad of three to the stage, name checked some of his most memorable projects.

Back in 2009 he got Cheryl Cole, Ben Shephard, Alesha Dixon, Kimberley Walsh, Fearne Cotton, Chris Moyles, Denise Van Outen and Ronan Keating to take part in a sponsored climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The same year he raised over £6 million after organising ‘Children In Need Rocks.’

In 2010 Barlow appeared at Twickenham Stadium to perform the hit single “Shame” alongside Robbie Williams in aid of the Help for Heroes charity and in January 2011 the singer songwriter held a special show, named GB40, at Shepherd’s Bush Empire to celebrate his 40th birthday. All of the profits from the show went to charity.

The Children in Need 2011 concert, as well as the official single for the charity, a cover of ‘Teardrop’ in which Barlow put together a number of artists known as ‘The Collective,’ raised a whopping £26 million.

Taking to the stage tonight, a rather delectable Gary accepted his award and thanked the public saying:

“Thank you, wow, wow! This award is absolutely fantastic. If I could just thank three groups of people. First the people who work within the charities. They are really paid very little and they work really hard, they should have a round of applause because they are the unsung heroes.

Secondly, all the artists who are always in fear of me calling and last of all you guys out there who always put your hands in your pockets. I know we ask all year round ‘give, give’give’ and somehow you always do. Thanks for giving up all you have.”

It was a brilliant night for both Gary Barlow and the X Factor gang at the NTAs tonight

The Take That star won the ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ at the National Television Awards for his involvement in charity work.

His close friend, Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, presented the gong, praising the star’s tireless charity efforts.

You have to hand it to Gary Barlow – he is such a dedicated man, this year he’s joined the X Factor and completed a massive UK and European tour with Take That.

He’s still found time throughout his other commitments to complete some amazing charity work. To focus on just a couple of them in 2009, Gary organised the BT Comic Relief Kilimanjaro Climb, he completed the jounrey despite an extremely bad back and also got other high profile stars involved such as Cheryl Cole.

In 2011 he organised ‘Children In Need Rocks’, raising in excess of £6 million. Take That also had a special ’Comic Relief’ t-shirt available at their ‘Progress Live’ tour last year will all proceeds going to the charity.

Humble as ever, tonight, as he accepted the award, Gary said: “Oh thank you. Wow this award is absolutely fantastic.

“If I could just thank three groups of people:

“All the people who work in the charities – they get paid very little and they work 24/7. They are the unsung heroes.

    “Secondly, all the artists…

“And last of all you guys out there, who always put your hands in your pockets. I know we always ask give, give, give but you always do so thank you everybody.”

Gary also won the ‘Best Talent Show’ award with the rest of the X Factor crew.

On the fashion front Tulisa wore a shockingly bad pink dress, although ok and quite fun from the front the back just looked cheap and tacky with her huge tattoo.

X Factor judge Gary Barlow has won an Outstanding Contribution National Television Award this evening for his charity work.

The Take That star was recognised for the millions of pounds he has raised with concerts and events over the years, which have included last year’s Children In Need Rocks concert and his climb to the top Mount Kilimanjaro in 2008.

“This is absolutely fantastic,” he said ona accepting the award. “If I could just thank three groups of people… First, the people who work within the charities, second, the artists who are always in fear of me calling asking them to sing into a microphone and spend a night in a tent.

“And lastly, all of you guys out there who always put your hands in your pockets.”

Chris Moyles, who joined Gary on the Kilimanjaro trek, presented him with the award on tonight’s ceremony, which was broadcast live on ITV1.

Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, who also took part the trek, was quick to offer her congrats, tweeting: “Go on Mr @GBarlowOfficial!!! Congrats on your NTA!”

X Factor boss Simon Cowell meanwhile added via Twitter: “Congrats to @TheXFactor team. Thrilled. Gary deserved his award.”
